Please join the U.S. Department of Commerce,  Connecticut District Export Council, Connecticut SBDC and  Corporation for International Business for a 30 minute webinar on understanding ATA Carnets. ATA Carnets can reduce costs and make clearing customs easier when marketing, demonstrating or selling overseas.  Temporary import/exports, known as boomerang freight, can be trade show booths, exhibition equipment, product samples for display or demonstration and are not dutiable or taxable. The boomerang freight returns to the US usually within 12 months.

In this webinar, we will discuss the differences between temporary and permanent exports including documentation. The advantages, export controls, licensing and regulations of temporary exports, as well as, typical import/export documents. We go over the logistics involved in a temporary export and the ATA Carnet document itself.  It’s acceptance in 84 countries, it can be used for multiple countries and trips, its 6-12 month validity, it works for hand-carried and shipped goods and, can be issued directly to the shipper or to their freight forwarder.

Finally, we discuss the steps to obtaining a Carnet, give an example of the costs and how they are calculated, and how to sell goods overseas off the Carnet. For more information contact Anthony.sargis@trade.gov.
